In a rare opportunity, members of LEGIIAVG and Ludus Gladiatorius leapt at the chance to round off a great 2007 season with a show at the current excavations of Liss Villa. With funding cuts threatening to prematurely close the community excavations, members of the Liss Villa Project gave guided tours of the 2007 season excavations whilst Leg II brought the period to life for over 1500 visitors. With the profile of the project raised it is hoped work will now continue next season on this 3rd–4th century AD site which includes substantial stone footings, an impressive tessellated floor, deep well (including the remains of a poor dog) and numerous post holes suggestive of barns and other outbuildings. |
