Latest News From The Ranks

Leg II’s very own lawyer about town ‘Bad Penny,’ a.k.a. Keith Perryman has been putting the finishing touches to his epic, fictional account of the legion’s invasion of Britannia and in particular the fierce conflict that raged around the Durotriges hill fort defences located in modern Dorset.

Set during the campaign season of AD 44, young Tribune, Gaius, finds himself thrust into the bitter fighting. But Gaius quickly learns that honour is a scarce commodity on the battlefield as he clashes with fellow officers over the beautiful slave girl Elen. As the world tears itself apart around him Gaius is to learn that Romans make the deadliest of enemies and that allies come in the strangest form...

Farewell Rome takes Gaius and Elen on an epic journey from the blood soaked fields of Britannia to a pulse pounding finale in Rome itself...

Commenting on Farewell Rome, Major General Corran Purdon, C.B.E., M.C., C.P.M., observes that this is “a fascinating episode of British history, the research shines through the pages making the story entirely believable. A really good read, I found it difficult to put down.”
