The Legion’s 2007 season got off to a spooky start with a full military and civilian show, boasting cavalry and the gladiators of Lvdvs at the fantastic Littlecote Villa site in Berkshire. Though Littlecote House is famed for being the most haunted in the UK, this didn’t stop a hardy group of legionaries and civilians from spending the night in the Tudor rooms despite the bumps and crashes in the middle of the night - and no it wasn’t the armour falling over... With good weather, and a fine public turnout, the group had a brilliant first full show parading and presenting on a field overlying a real Roman road and within Pilum throwing distance of one of the UK’s finest surviving villas. Famed for its amazing mosaics, Littlecote was a particularly wealthy site, with a large main house, outbuildings and bath house complex. Recent archaeological investigation promises to throw up even more important findings from this fantastic site... |
