North Africa—Dougga

The seat of the Numidian king Masinissa in the 2nd century BC, Dougga, or Thugga was  occupied by the Romans in the late 2nd century BC. The well-preserved theatre (top left) was built around 168 AD. The remains of well appointed houses, spread across 25 hectares, nestling up against the larger temples and public buildings high in the hills of Northern Tunisia.
