Titus Flavius Postumius Varus
Taken from an inscription recording the restoration of the Temple of Diana in about 250AD, as legatus legionis. Varus went on to become prefect of Rome in 271.

Legionary prefect in charge of the reconstruction of the VII Cohorts barracks along with the legate Vitulasius Laetinianus. (See above).

This name is taken from an altar stone to Salus,Regina.

Tadius Exuperatus
Taken from a tombstone at Pil-bach, 1km to the west of Caerleon. Tadius is recorder as dying aged 37, having died on the German expedition. His mother Tadia Vallaunius is remembered on the same stone having died at the age of 65. The stone was erected by the daughter Tadia Exuperata. No mention of a military unit though.
Valerius Martialis
A name found on a mortarium rim at Careleon.
Cornelius Castus
Taken from a dedication stone outside the bath house at Caerleon, Cornelius’s wife Iulia Belismicus is also mentioned. The stone is dedicated to Fortuna and Bonus Eventus.
The above three are all names from Caerleon, but there is no recorded military connection to LEG II AVG.

Taken from an alter dedicated to Sylvanus at Vindolanda. The man was a military official of undetermined rank in charge of local civilian ‘government’ of a vicus.
